Microsoft Turns 35 – It’s been an adventure

This year the Redmond, Washington software company is hitting it’s 35th anniversary. It has come along way since it’s early inception in Albuquerque, New Mexico and the early efforts writing software for the Altair 8800. Bill Gates and Paul Allen’s dedication to making/acquiring the best software and companies revolutionized the business world in which we live in. The importance of this firm to the world is both well known and well documented.

Companies, organizations, and countries have counted on the firm’s product leadership to help them through times of reorganization, growth, and day-to-day operations. The savvy company (which at one point funded rival Apple with $150 million in cash through a non-voting stock acquisition) has ‘pressed the button’ on global growth and entrenchment within emerging markets. With an ever-growing pipeline of  new software coming out throughout the years, it can be a daunting task for managers to stay on top of all of their departments’ training needs. Thankfully, there are training solutions that are there in these times of need when building a strong aptitude for the Microsoft product catalog is required.

All of us count on desktop software and you should know that our team here at K Alliance is committed to meeting all of your desktop training needs. Also available are a wide assortment of Microsoft certification training courses, soft skills training, and online mentoring services available for you and your organization. Reach our main office here in sunny Tampa at (800) 330-9111. We look forward to servicing your needs.

Training 2010 Conference Recap

K Alliance finished up a successful run on Wednesday (2/3) the 33rd at the Training 2010 Conference & Expo in California at the San Diego Convention Center. Members of senior management were on the west coast for strategy meetings and for business development. Leaders of the IT training, e-learning, corporate training, and educational fields gathered on the waterfront location for 3+ days of events.

Training 2010 began on Monday morning and was chock full of great breakout sessions, roundtables, keynote speakers, and other related events. The firm was there as a sponsor of the Top 125 Awards Program & Gala, supplying event collateral for the entire event & hosting a raffle at the dinner. The main event was held on Monday night (2/1) and was a gathering of 700+ leaders from many of the most innovative firms and agencies from within the corporate training/IT worlds (sporting mant Fortune 500 companies).

Award winners included Cisco, General Mills, The U.S. Navy, Wells Fargo, Sun Microsystems, Wyeth, Avanade, and many others. K Alliance took its spot amongst the giants of industry with Director of Marketing Tchalla Greene stepping onto stage to accept the sponsor’s award from Training Magazine Publisher Joyceann Cooney-Garripa (soon to come to company FB page) on behalf of the company. The company’s brand definitely received some key visibility in the area, also benefiting from West2010 traffic – which was also taking place in there in the same time in another part of the same venue.

The events in Southern California will serve as a springboard for the company into the 2nd and 3rd quarters.

Windows 7 Power Keys

Power users are everywhere. Use an application enough, you’ll start to grasp the advantages of shortcuts. Need to open a new window or tab? Why move the mouse to File, New Window or File, New Tab when Ctrl-N or Ctrl-T are at your fingertips?

Once you grasp the utilization of the Ctrl, Alt, Shift and Win keys, you’ll ask yourself why you didn’t start using shortcuts earlier? Want to increase the text in your browser? Ctrl +. Want to decrease the size of browser text? Ctrl -.

Windows 7 brings new shortcuts to the interface and other functionality.

The Taskbar shortcuts are as follows:

Ctrl + Mouse click to cycle between windows or tabs.

Shift + Right click displays the classic Window menu. Right clicking on an application’s thumbnail also exhibits the same menu.

Ctrl + Shift + Click executes a new instance including admin privileges.

Shift + Click, or for 3 button mice, the middle click, brings up a new instance of the current application.

Global shortcuts new to Windows 7 are as follows:

Win + Left, and Win + Right immediately reposition the current window to the left or right half of the screen. If a multi monitor configuration is in effect, the window will continue to move to other monitors.

Win + Shift + Left, and Win + Shift + Right move the current window to the left or right display.

Holding down the Win + pressing the Space Bar is a shortcut for Aero Peek, displaying the desktop.

Win + Up maximizes the current window.

Win + Down minimizes the current window.

Win + Shift Up vertically maximizes the current window.

Win and +, Win and – (minus key) will zoom the desktop in and out.

Win + Home is a shortcut for Aero Shake, minimizing all windows except the current pane.

Win + P displays an ‘external display option’ pane, providing the user the choice of showing the desktop only on the screen, only on the external display, same output on both (cloned), or on both displays featuring independent desktops (extended).
